It was a great experience and we are happy that we are able to win a bronze medal even though it is a first time a Paralympics women’s team was representing India. Vinolia Violet, Women’s Team Captain.
Wheelchair Basketball which is considered to be one of the most overshadowed sports in our nation was never that undemanding for our women to clinch bronze in their name. But they looked very elementary in the contest. In spite of not getting enough time to compose themselves still they looked very confident in the fixture and the result is the palpable proof of it.
We are trying to find indoor places to practice, if we do it outdoor e will have to keep changing the wheelchair tires. Many of the players do not have proper courts to practice and some of them do not have proper wheelchairs so some of them just do ball practice. Vinolia Violet.
Getting sponsors for the tournament was a flinty job for the basketball federation but the Australian Consulate in Chennai came up with sponsoring the women’s team. Federation considers this appearance in the tournament was a good exposure for the players. According to Wheelchair Federation President Latha, it was a learning experience for the players who learnt many techniques of the game while competing with the inflexible opponents in the fixture as the tournament progressed.
Country thinks this win of the women’s team to be one of the most significant victories which embarked their presence in the world circuit that India is competent enough to compete with the burdensome opponents of the business. Without being provided with proper infrastructure the way women came up their courage and shown the world by registering their victory that they earned a respect and honour of the nation.
